Another of my overhauled Harmony Sovereign guitars. This one is weird. It has the double pickguard and pin bridge of the fancy models but it’s labeled “LTD” Has anyone ever heard of this “brand” or was it a custom shop model? Private label?Hard to say. These are really nice guitars on the vintage market. Solid Honduran mahogany back and sides. Solid spruce top. Brazilian rosewood fretboard and bridge.
I replaced the internal ladder bracing with standard X bracing.. Refinished the back and sides with French polish. I also installed a nice internal pickup. Built in the USA. The poor man’s Martin D-18.
The intro to Stairway to Heaven was played on this model by Jimmy Page. If you see one of these babies on Ebay snap it up…unless I see it first. I own SIX of these. They also showed up under the Silvertone and Kay brand. They were all made at the same factory in Chicago USA until 1974 when they went out of business. I think they are reissuing the Harmony brand electric models..but no way will they be able to reissue the acoustics. Most of the ingredients used are now extinct or prohibitively expensive…Like the Brazilian rosewood, Honduran mahogany, shellac finish and hide glue…I love these guitars!

A nice, all original Kay archtop electric. These were sold under several different brand-names: Old Kraftsman, Truetone, Penncrest, and Airline.
As always, disregard the poor playing and sound quality, the guitar sounds excellent.

(Sound may be a little low on this video.)
This one is pretty rare. I’ve only ever seen a few of these pop up on ebay over the years. It’s pretty nice quality and comparable to other Italian electrics of the era like Eko, Vox, Crucianelli, Welson, Galanti, Goya, etc.
As always disregard the poor playing and sound quality.

A great sounding and playing vintage Kay “Swingmaster” model (I think) manufactured in Chicago, Illinois around 1960 or so.

Here are pictures of some of the vintage (mostly 1960’s) electric guitars I have bought and sold on ebay over the past few years. I was going to add a list of each guitar and the brands etc, but that’s too much effort. There’s Kay, Silvertone, Harmony, Danelectro, Electra, Aria, Teisco, Kent, Kalamazoo, Galanti, Eko, Vox, Crucianelli, Morbidoni, Jolana, Defil, Hofner, Framus, Hagstrom… and plenty more lesser brands.
The music is just some songs I have recorded on a few of these guitars at various points.
There are over 140 or so guitars, and I’m missing pictures of quite a few more.
