This is a micro time-capsule of 1930s and early 1940s American pop culture, captured in enhanced and modified images of my uncles “trinket collection”.

My uncle, Robert Shroyer, was killed in action in the Battle of Midway in World War II when he was still just a teenager – long before I was born. All I ever had of him were my Moms stories, along with this collection of vintage ‘trinkets’ he’d collected as a young man in the small Colorado mining town of Rockvale. Many times, while growing up in my home town of Pueblo, Colorado, I’d sit for hours examining these magical little objects – imagining they were great treasures. And I still feel that way when I look at them today.

Many of the art works used in making this video are available as Fine Art Prints in the “Trinket Gallery” on my website – here’s a link to it: http://www.DougGriffinArt.com/Galleries/Trinkets/
Collectibles and Gift Items of the “Trinket” art works are also available on my site – here’s a link: http://www.DougGriffinArt.com/GiftItems/SquareMagnets/SquareMagnets.html

The soundtrack to this video is my band Cat On Bass™ (from the album “Essential Bass”), playing “Dg’s Bass Loops & Grooves” (drum loops by E-Drummer). The CD, Essential Bass, along with official Cat On Bass™ Merchandise, is available on my website at: http://www.DougGriffinArt.com/CatOnBass/EssentialBass/

See how years of exposure to light has faded the finish of a Les Paul Junior. The same thing has happened to older Les Paul Standards – where the red fades away and “cherry” sunburst becomes “ice tea” sunburst.

This magnificent piece of American heritage was recovered from Fredericksburg Texas. I had her fully restored by Guitar Tex, in San Antonio, who did an amazing job of fixing a small humidity crack on the back; they reattached some of the original binding, fully re-fretted the neck and had to refit one brace.

The finish is all original and shiny with just a few dings. The neck is perfectly straight, the action is flat and light, and you have to really pound on her to get a buzz off the low E. She is an absolute dream to play!

The ‘34 was the first year of the “narrow body” with a reduced saddle width and a longer body then the dreadnaughts. It was only made for one production year.

This instrument deserves one of the greats to play her, and that’s certainly not me, but here we go anyway….

I’ve accompanied this guitar with a five track clip off the Yamaha using a clarinet, trumpet, and a nylon classical guitar. The drum patch was canned, but I dropped in the guerro just for fun. I don’t have an ending for it yet, so it just cuts after 12 bars, and I wrote it for Piano, so its flavor a little odd for a Gibson; but I’ma little odd too.

I’m wearing a 1948 double brested dogbone from Tiffiny Togs, and I’m playing with a thin 60’s fender pick in perloid blue, for a full vintage package…

I hope you enjoy this wonderfull vintage guitar, and please comment.
