A legend on the British Folk Music Scene, John Joyce, along with Cyril Davis, pioneered the 12 string guitar in the UK. Blues was his first love and he appeared with such greats as Howling Wolf,Jesse Fuller, Reverend Gary Davis,Sonny Terry & Brownie McGee. John’s playing a ‘one off’ Harmony Stella 12 string, made for a trade show in the 60’s, but not released on sale, shame about that, as it’s got a great sound. Sadly,in February 2004, John passed away.

The Studio is the Standard just smaller and without the binding on the side.

The Vintage mahogany is kind of the same just the same size of the Les Paul Standard

The BFG is like a beat up Les Paul that hasn’t been reliced properly. Good sound though

I’d Get the Studio. Looks just like a standard except for the truss rod cover. Just change it and say that it was a Standard.

I’ve been building many vacuum tube audio amplifiers and tube guitar amps. I just like using them since I have a large collection of them and I’m in the vintage radio and tube business. I’m a big fan of beam power tubes and I would take a 6L6 or 807 over a 2A3, 300B, 45, 50, or any power triode tube any day.

Some of the world’s most respected audio equipment is still vacuum tubes!

But when i tried some basses at guitar center the one that sound the most like it was a squier vintage modified squier. The 70s reissue bass sounded the next most like it then his signature bass. I find that the Geddy signature was the easiest to play but didn’t get any of that growly tone. The 70 was in between and the fretless sounded just like it.

Try a Rickenbacker 4001 or 4003. And run into a P.A. system with a DI, no amp.

And also, Lee’s Jazz Bass seems to have been incorrectly re-wired at one point, giving it it’s tone.

I have a 1954 O-15 in solid mahogany. I have been recommended everything from mineral oil to carnuba wax, and everybody warns about one and permits another, but nobody seems to agree what is safe, and what will not impede the instrument from resonating, nor dampen it. I want it to look as lustrous as possible without leaving a film, coating, or residue that will harm the wood or ruin its beautiful sound.

Pledge

In this module we review a vintage Ampeg Reverberocket amp. David plays through a Gibson Nighthawk electric guitar. More reviews and lessons at http://www.nextlevelguitar.com
